The Brooch is back !

Brooch

There’s an unspoken inventory of fashion paraphernalia that has become
synonymous with women of the 70-plus age bracket—seamed stockings, a sleek hobble skirt, cashmere crewneck sweaters in varying shades of lilac—and, of course, a brooch. So it came as quite the surprise when various iterations of the granny-like pin started cropped up all over the runways.
Take the spring 2015 Céline show for example, where smooth white porcelain hand-shape clasps were fastened through the lapels and cuffs of structured jackets and blazers. Far from appearing fusty, the adornments added artsy irreverence to polished tailoring. Still not convinced? Zoom in on Chanel’s spring line and you can’t help but notice the playful marinière striped cotton and ruby-red enamel butterflies that dance over delicate white lace shirts and classic navy blazers.
Other prize-winning contenders include Oscar de la Renta’s elongated black blooms, which looked especially romantic when strewn on the shoulder of a monochromatic gingham crop top or a satin fit-and-flare evening dress. Those wishing to make a bold style statement (or channel Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw circa season two) will be enthralled by the supersize, superchic peony clasps seen at Vera Wang for resort 2015. Worn on the shoulder of an asymmetric chiffon gown or the collar of a sporty satin sweater, the brooch is the cool, versatile piece we can’t wait to pin on.
